20 Serious Tax Problems

The IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service recently issued a list of the 20 most serious problems encountered by taxpayers.  The list includes:

  • Taxpayer rights
  • Identity theft
  • Improper levies
  • Return preparer fraud
  • Improper collection practices
  • Improper penalties

This list of the 20 most serious problems was included in the Taxpayer Advocate Service’s annual report to Congress.  Unfortunately, the annual report is simply advisory and it is up to Congress and the IRS to decide whether to take any action.
