Attorney Patrick T. Sheehan today negotiated an installment agreement on behalf of a client for $521.00 per month on a liability that was initially greater than $40,000.00. The IRS had filed tax returns on behalf of the taxpayer for 2001, 2002 and 2003. The taxpayer had not yet filed his returns for 2004 or 2005, but had filed his returns for later years. The IRS assigned a Revenue Officer to the case to demand the filing of the unfiled tax returns and to collect the unpaid liability. Sheehan was able to file the 2004 and 2005 tax returns and to persuade the IRS to not demand the filing of the 2001, 2002 and 2003 tax returns. After we recommended to the taxpayer that he make a good faith down payment, Sheehan was able to negotiate an installment agreement for the remining balance due with monthly payments only in the amount of $521.00. More importantly, Sheehan was able to negotiate the agreement without having to disclose the client’s income or assets to the IRS under a special program.
