Beware, because identity thieves have plastered the internet with thousands of fake IRS websites that steal your information and take your refund. The problem has only gotten bigger. For example, in 2006, the IRS identified 245 fake websites. In 2011 the IRS identified 14,254 fake websites. In the first quarter of 2012 alone, the IRS identified 9,916 fake websites.
