Fill a Heart 4 Kids is truly an amazing organization! Started in 2007 by the McAveeney family of Lake Forest, this nonprofit delivers care packages to Chicagoland youth homes to help the young and often forgotten residents feel special and loved on important days like birthdays and other gift-giving holidays.

According to the Fill a Heart 4 Kids website, in the past 10 years the organization has donated over “10,965 ‘We Care Packages’ filled with age appropriate gifts and necessities to help orphans and foster children feel loved and remembered.” They’ve also delivered 11,440 personalized cards, donated 4,332 items of school supplies and given more than 1,353 gift cards.

The organization has expanded to help organize winter coat drives, host princess and birthday parties and many other events to make disadvantaged kids feel special.

So, it was with great happiness that our Hops for Humanity nonprofit was able to make a substantial donation to Fill a Heart 4 Kids during our October fundraising event. Hops for Humanity is a charity founded by Elmhurst tax attorney Patrick T. Sheehan and his wife Julie. It is made up of lovers of local craft beer who meet quarterly to raise money for greater Chicagoland charities.

At each event, committed Hops members submit eligible local charities, and everybody who attends the event can vote to help choose the winning charity. The money raised at each Hops event is donated to the charity selected that evening. To date, we have raised over $110,000 for 12 local charities.

Our October event was held at Skeleton Key Brewery in Woodridge. Skeleton Key is a local taproom and brewery incubator owned and operated by a brother, sister and husband team from Chicago’s western suburbs. We truly appreciate Skeleton Key hosting our group. It’s an amazing facility that is helping to fuel the local craft beer scene.
