Elmhurst Tax Attorney Patrick Sheehan addressing the crowd at a recent Hops for Humanity event.
Good Beer. Doing Good. That’s our slogan for Hops for Humanity—the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization started by Elmhurst Tax Attorney Patrick T. Sheehan in 2014. Three years later, and we’re still going strong!
How Hops for Humanity works is actually pretty simple. Members gather once per quarter to enjoy local craft beers while contributing to a good cause. Each Hops event is hosted at a local restaurant or brewery, and each group member donates $100 to attend and sample delicious local craft beers.
During the event, members hear presentations about three charities and then vote on which is the most deserving of the funds raised from the evening. Each event raises about $10,000. To date, Hops for Humanity has raised over $84,000!
Our next event is set for 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16 at the Red Arrow Tap Room, which is located at 111 E. First St. in downtown Elmhurst. Red Arrow is a pour-your-own establishment with 48 self-serve taps of the finest craft beers from Illinois and the Midwest. Red Arrow also serves incredible house-smoked BBQ from tabletop tablets. No more waiting for bar or table service again!
Discover more about the first of its kind technology that allows Red Arrow to operate a pour-your-own establishment.
At our last Hops event in the fall of 2016, we were able to raise over $10,000 for the DuPage Senior Citizens Council. The Council provides meals to 4,000 needy senior citizens in DuPage County through Meals on Wheels and Community Dining meals. The Council also provides over 1,100 Senior Chore days to the community.
Recently the DSCC sent Hops for Humanity the following thank you letter:
The DuPage Senior Citizens Council would like to thank Hops for Humanity for your $10,000 donation to our programs serving local elderly residents, including “Meals on Wheels,” Well Being Checks and DSCC’s Home Maintenance Program.
Your generosity will make a significant impact on the lives of seniors who are often hit hardest during such challenging economic times and rely on others for help. DSCC is a safety net for many aging individuals who might not otherwise eat a hot meal each day or have someone to check in on them.
We appreciate your helps in promoting our mission of enabling elderly persons to live their lives in dignity with as much independence as possible. DSCC is fortunate to have such friends in the community.
If you, too, would like to take part in our next Hops for Humanity event and help make a difference in the lives of local residents, simply fill out the these forms and join us on January 16 in downtown Elmhurst!
