Last December, Elmhurst tax attorney Patrick T. Sheehan founded Hops for Humanity. A local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Hops for Humanity was created as as a group whose members give back to greater Chicagoland charities, while also enjoying craft beer from local breweries. The group’s mission statement, “Good Beer Doing Good,” says it all.
The way it works is simple. Hops for Humanity hosts four events a year, each at a different local restaurant or brewery. Every member donates $100 to attend the event and enjoy the unique craft beer chosen for that evening.
During the event, members have the opportunity to hear about three different charities and vote for their favorite. The chosen charity then receives all of the money donated to Hops for Humanity that evening. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to the charity. In the first year, Hops for Humanity has raised about $44,000!
Hops for Humanity’s winter event is coming up on Monday, January 11, 2016 at HB Jones restaurant in Elmhurst, IL, from 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM. Located at 551 S. York St., on the south side of town, HB Jones specializes in delicious and adventurous burgers.
It’s sure to be an evening full of great beer, excellent food and good company.
For those interested in becoming a member of Hops for Humanity and giving back to their community, more information can be found on the Hops for Humanity website. Registration for the winter event is open now.
