Impeachment Resolution of IRS Commissioner Koskinen May Move Forward

Posted on September 19, 2016

If you are a regular reader of our blog, you have learned that House Republicans have threatened to censure and/or impeach embattled IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.

The prior threats to bring an impeachment resolution are actually picking up steam.  According to House representative John Fleming, R-LA, a member of the House Freedom Caucus and the spearhead of the impeachment movement, told reporters that they will meet the week of September 21 to decide on a strategy for impeaching Commissioner Koskinen and that a vote on the impeachment resolution by the end of that week is very possible.

Most House Freedom Caucus members have agreed to proceed with impeachment, but House Republican leaders have been hesitant on this issue.  According to House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, R-WI, “the members are going to vote the way they want,” sounding reluctant but resigned.

Commissioner Koskinen met with a caucus of moderate House Republicans known as the Tuesday Group behind closed doors on September 7, 2016, to discuss his possible impeachment and how the impeachment proceedings will play out.  Do you think IRS Commissioner Koskinen should be impeached?
