IRS Hires Up to 700 New Tax Enforcement Workers This Year

Posted on May 13, 2016

If you are a regular reader of our blog, you have already learned that the number of IRS Automated Collection System employees has dropped 30% since 2010.  As a result, IRS enforced collection activity on delinquent taxpayers accounts has dropped by more than half since 2010.  That may soon come to an end.

The IRS recently announced that they will hire between 600 to 700 new enforcement workers in two waves through the end of this fiscal year.  The first wave of hiring will be for entry level Revenue Agents, Revenue Officers and other enforcement personnel for posts around the country.  The second wave of hiring will be for higher level enforcement positions.

The ramp up in IRS enforcement personnel, coupled with the new private debt collector program, will result in more aggressive collection activity.  If you have unfiled tax returns or unpaid liability due to the IRS, now is the time to act, and we can help.
