If you are a regular reader of this blog, you are aware of the many IRS scams out there designed to steal your money.
Well, the IRS has now warned of a new scam perpetrated upon tax return preparers where an individual impersonating an IRS employee claims that a refund was erroneously deposited into a client’s bank account.
The impersonator then asks the tax return preparer to provide bank account information for the client to the “IRS.” Not only can the scammer then use this information to withdraw money out of your bank account, scammers can also use this information, along with other available information, to file false tax returns on your behalf and claim false refunds.
Also, if you receive unusual correspondence from the IRS, such as a tax transcript or a refund that you did not request, chances are that a scammer is trying to scam you.
