Security Breach Lawsuit Filed Against The IRS

Posted on September 02, 2015

We’ve mentioned the IRS Get Transcript hack in a previous blog post. Two women from Texas have sued the IRS in a proposed class action lawsuit stemming from the data breach related to the IRS’ Get Transcripts service. During the most recent tax filing season, an estimated 330,000 taxpayers were exposed to hackers who received their personal identification information. The lawsuit alleges that the IRS deliberately and intentionally decided to not implement security measures needed to prevent the data breach. The lawsuit seeks improvement of IRS security measures, to provide plaintiffs with adequate credit monitoring services, after the fact identity repair services and identity theft insurance.

The class action lawsuit captioned Welborn v. IRS has been filed on behalf of the 330,000 taxpayer accounts.
